We watched the video to the right in class, in the video, Marie Smith, the photographer of the project; "Whispering for help" discusses the process that she undertook for the project. The process was very interesting to me as the input that the subjects of the photos had was very important to the final look of the photos. Even though obviously in this project we had to make a response similar to the work in "Whispering for Help", I think that I can use ideas that I can see in this video in further projects. I really like the idea of involvement from the subject. I think that where usually a photographer is only passively observing a subject, and it is up for the viewer to interpret the story behind the photo, a more 4th wall breaking style of photo is very intriguing to me, as an interesting interaction between the photographer and the person that is the subject of the photos is quite unusually seen in photography and very thought provoking. I wish that I could have approached this style in a similar and more interesting way than I have, because I respect Marie Smith's work a lot but in comparison, mine lacks the more personal and truthful element way in which Marie Smith can capture subjects and show their personality.

This is my response to this that I took of Harry. For the task we were separated into pairs and made to take photos of each other based on how our partner said they felt, going back to school after the long break. Harry told me that he felt "bored". I felt like this didn't give me a lot of room to experiment with the task but regardless I tried my best to show the feeling of boredom. What I thought would be important to create this sense of boredom in the photos would be by, making Harry look isolated and small in the photos. I made use of negative space to create to make Harry seem small within the frame and I exaggerated this effect by giving the photos a square aspect ratio. I feel like this aspect ratio definitely creates a sense of loneliness but I still feel like as if these photos could have been developed on and the idea of boredom could have been more explored through different types of editing. I think what made this task most difficult for me is that I couldn't think of many uses of symbolism that would be easily recognizable as signs of boredom and so I just mainly just stuck to more basic portraiture photos that kind of feel lifeless and led me to run out of more creative ideas.
